Boat Canvas FAQ's
Frequently Asked Canvas & Bimini Top Questions
How do I clean my boat canvas?
You should clean your canvas covers and bimini tops with a gentle, non-detergent cleanser such as Dreft or Woolite. Smaller covers can be washed in the washing machine, but only use cold water. Always air dry your boat canvas; never use heat on it. Let any protective canvas cover dry before you put it on your boat or you risk introducing mildew and mold into your boat.
How can I prevent my boat canvas from getting mildew and mold?
Prevention is the best treatment. After it rains, go out and check to see if there are any spots where water is pooling. Those spots are prime areas for mildew and mold growth, and if they exist you will need to have your boat canvas adjusted so that it fits properly. Also check for any mold and mildew spots that are already starting. If you find any spots like that, first try washing them with a gentle non-detergent cleanser and if that does not clear it up use a diluted bleach solution. Ideally you will not have to worry about mold and mildew since marine canvas is treated with antimicrobial agents to keep it safe in all weathers.
How should I store my boat canvas?
Your boat canvas needs to be completely dry before you store it. Store it in a dry place to prevent mildew growth. Roll it, rather than folding it, to increase its life. At all costs avoid folding vinyl areas such as windows.
Can I get a bimini cover that is for the same model but a different year than my boat?
No. Each year has different dimensions and designs, and a bimini top for one year will not necessarily fit on a boat of a different year, even with the same brand and model. If we do not carry your boat’s brand, model, or year, contact us for a custom top so you can be certain of getting one that fits.
Can I get a bimini top without the frame, and use my existing frame?
Yes, if the frame you are going to be using is the factory model that was designed to go on your boat. This is a great way to save some money and to keep from having to get unnecessary parts for your boat. If your frame is an aftermarket model (and we didn’t make it), our cover will probably not fit on the frame.

Can you repair my existing canvas cover or top?
Yes, we do canvas repairs! Of course, whether we can repair your existing canvas cover will depend on the condition it is in. We can do a lot, but we are not magical miracle workers. There is a certain point at which you might need to just buy a new canvas cover, when your canvas is so far damaged that it is not worth repairing or even possible to repair. Contact us and let us take a look at your canvas cover, and we will let you know what we can do to repair it.
